Richmond, IN

$21-$27 an hour

Responsibilities:

Prepare and set up MIG welding equipment suitable for aluminum or other metal types, including adjusting voltage, wire speed, and gas flow.


Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings to ensure welds meet precise specifications for aluminum or metal parts.


Perform MIG welding on aluminum and metal components using proper techniques to minimize warping, cracking, or contamination.


Clean and prepare metal surfaces (e.g., removing oxidation from aluminum) prior to welding to ensure strong weld integrity.


Clamp, tack, and position components accurately using jigs, fixtures, or measuring tools to maintain alignment during welding.


Inspect completed welds visually and with tools to ensure quality, precision, and structural integrity-paying close attention to porosity or cracking, especially with aluminum.


Grind, buff, or finish welds to achieve desired surface appearance or prepare for further processing.


Handle lightweight and heavy aluminum/metal components safely, using hoists or lift assists when necessary.


Perform basic maintenance on MIG welders and associated tools to ensure optimal operation and safety.


Follow all safety standards, PPE requirements, and OSHA guidelines when working with hot materials, sharp edges, or potentially hazardous fumes.


Collaborate with fabricators, supervisors, and engineers to ensure welds meet production and quality standards.


Document work performed including weld types, materials used, and any non-conformance issues for quality assurance.


Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; certification in welding preferred.
Proven experience as an aluminum welder, with knowledge of various welding techniques.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
Strong understanding of welding safety practices and procedures.
Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
