Summary of Position A Principal Cyclotron Engineer -is responsible
for all technical aspects pertaining to the monitoring, training,
planning, and execution of cyclotron (particle accelerator)
operations, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair activities
while actively managing the activities within the constraints of
limited production downtime and available department resources, in
order to meet internal customer demands for bulk
radiopharmaceutical production. -This position serves as the
technical expert within the cyclotron operations and maintenance
field and the decisions and contributions of position will impact
the overall success of the department. - Cyclotron Engineers must
also have the leadership abilities to effectively direct and manage
the technical work of the Cyclotron Technicians and Coordinators,
as well as the work of non-technically trained "augmentees". - Work
Schedule:
- Monday - Friday (8 hours) -
- This position supports production in a 24-hour manufacturing
facility and may require evenings, nights, weekends, and some
holidays. Essential Functions
- Ensure a safe and quality working environment through training,
awareness, and compliance to safety guidelines and SOP's. -
- Ensure the maintenance of their department, premises and
equipment. -
- Monitor and direct daily operations of cyclotrons and support
equipment. -
- Perform, coordinate, and lead department troubleshooting
activities for cyclotrons and support equipment. -
- On a rotating basis, must serve as the primary after hours
point of contact to site leadership, responsible for the timely
communication and response to any cyclotron equipment problems
which includes performing the final technical assessment, and
directing and/or performing emergency troubleshooting and repairs
if needed. -
- Develop and promote equipment and process improvements which
serve to improve reliability, increase output, and reduce radiation
exposure. -
- Assist in driving cost savings initiatives for the department.
Ensure department safety, quality, and financial metrics are
achieved. -
- Must frequently identify alternate cyclotron parts options and
suppliers for potential cost savings, increased reliability, and
decreased supply chain timelines. -
- Lead and organize department safety initiatives and programs.

- Must actively manage personal radiation exposure as well as
exposures of shift personnel per prescribed policies, procedures,
and guidelines. -
- Must maintain Class 1 Radiation Worker training qualifications.

- Must frequently guide and direct non-technically skilled
"augmentees" in performing mechanical repairs to cyclotrons. -
- Must provide accurate and timely record keeping of maintenance
and repair work performed. -
- Collateral duties and special projects assigned by
superintendent and/or other site or corporate leadership. -
Requirements
- Bachelor Degree preferred or direct applicable experience.

- Eight or more years of experience in cyclotron operations,
troubleshooting, maintenance, repairs. -
- Experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the
following: -solid-state and vacuum tube-based electronics, analog
and digital circuits, logic circuits/PLCs, high power RF systems
(high HF through low VHF ranges), high voltage DC power equipment,
electro-mechanical systems, and vacuum systems (mechanical,
cryogenic, and/or diffusion pumps). -
- Experience working around ionizing radiation sources. -
- Experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics. -
- Skills/Competencies: Action Oriented, Problem Solving, Decision

Written Communications, Creativity -
- Ability to use a variety of general purpose test equipment and
bench test electronic system components. -
- Ability to use advanced test equipment such as RF spectrum and
network analyzers, and helium and ultrasonic leak test equipment.

- Good mechanical inclination and proficiencies. -
- Good technical troubleshooting skills with and without
schematics. -
- Ability to perform large scale troubleshooting with system
components spread across multiple areas. -
- Ability to perform circuit board repair and basic soldering. -
Working Conditions
- Willingness to work in plant producing radioactive materials
and requiring all employees to participate in safety programs
designed to minimize potential and/or actual exposure levels.
- Must be willing to wear a variety of personal protective
equipment.
- Willingness to work in a team-based environment. -
- Close attention to detail required. -
- May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time while
performing duties. -
- Must be able to work outside of regular work hours, overtime,
weekends and holidays. -
- Occasional handling of radioactive cyclotron components.
- Frequent work around high voltages.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be
required to work under pressure with multiple interruptions. -
- Responsibilities also include the ability to lift up to 70 lbs,
push and pull loads up to 350 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull,
reach, and climb stairs and ladders with or without accommodation.

- Occasional exposure to moderate environmental variations,
above-normal noise levels, and/or unpleasant substances.
- Must possess good hand-eye coordination.
