Position Summary

The Pharmacy Director is responsible for the daily office operations and processes of MedScript. He/she directs and administers all MedScript policies and procedures. The areas of supervision include, but are not limited to; personnel administration, coordination of services, pharmacy services, on-site specialist services, customer service, and customer maintenance services. The Pharmacy Director will have responsibility for attaining and improving upon budget of the site. In addition, the Pharmacy Director will assist in special projects related to corporate or specific corporate programs. The Pharmacy Director will work closely with the HR Director on any employee related issues including but not limited to; performance improvement plans, corrective action, reviews, and recruiting.

Essential Position Responsibilities

• Direct and administer company policies and procedures to pharmacy associates

• Utilize Human Resources (HR) in an efficient manner

• Maintain staffing levels for the pharmacy and work with HR on procedures to fill those vacancies, whether present or future needs

• Work with corporate staff and HR towards implementation of MedScript training and development programs, including successor planning within the pharmacy

• Directs the efforts of pharmacy personnel in a manner which ensures facilities (customers) receive services in such a manner as to allow them to give (receive) the best possible care

• Develop and maintain relationships with facility administrators and directors of nursing

• Refer contacts of potential new customers to the C.O.O.

• Integrate site services into a coordinated team to better serve facilities (customers)

• Actively identify potential problems and rectify them before they have a chance to manifest as customer concerns

• Serve as a resource person to corporate staff, pharmacy technicians, facility staff, and customers in general

• Continually evaluate areas that need attention.

• Work closely with the Compliance Officer to create in services for MedScript staff

• Participate in management meetings

• Stay informed regarding state law and other pharmacy regulations

• Responsible for: in house pharmacists, data entry, medical records, and floor technicians

• Oversee daily workflow of data entry office-new orders, refills, stats. Make sure orders are prioritized and all auxiliary duties are being completed.

• Scheduling of in house pharmacists

• Review vacation requests for medical records, data entry and in house pharmacists. Post the monthly calendar of vacations in the data entry office.

• Maintain Order Entry Resource Manual

• Track productivity of data entry techs and pharmacists; meet with techs one on one monthly with Data Entry supervisor to assess where each tech is and discuss plans for improvement where needed.

• Annual performance evaluations for data entry, medical records, and in house pharmacists.

• New facility set up in prodigy

• New User set up in prodigy

• Review time sheets for data entry, med recs and in house pharmacists

• Customer service liaison for facilities

• Research concerns as needed from facilities, account reps, consultant pharmacists and other departments

• Send notifications to facilities about holidays, product back orders, recalls, etc where needed

• Run weekly Rx Sense report on Monday (Jesse currently reviews)

• Help in office as needed- May cover office shifts in emergency situations.

• Hold regular meetings (every 1-2 weeks) with office staff-data entry, medical records and pharmacists to maintain face to face communication of pertinent issues and provide education.

• Maintain open lines of communication between all departments-promote understanding of how each department affects the other. (this includes billing and floor departments)

• Oversee the investigation, as well as assist, in the development of responses to customer inquiries and complaints

• Manage the pharmacy in a manner which ensures attaining the budgeted operational cost goals

• Monitor salary increases for timeliness versus budget and ratings.

• Handle emergency medication orders in a timely and consistent manner

• Provide all possible clinical drug information and research products as requested by our client facilities, in addition to redirecting requests to the appropriate department

• Oversee the pharmacy order fulfillment process, including Order Entry, Label Check, and Packaging and that all orders are fulfilled accurately and according to customer expectations

• Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and MedScript Policies and Procedures with respect to dispensing

• Ensure all MedScript customers (client facilities) maintain a high level of satisfaction with the pharmacy service including dispensing, consulting, and medical records

• Review control medication inventory, identify & resolve all issues regarding control substance inventory

• Perform other related duties

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor degree in pharmacy from an accredited and recognized school of pharmacy

• Active Indiana Pharmacist License

Preferred Experience

• Previous pharmacy, long term care, or health care experience

• Four (4)+ years previous managerial experience

• Valid Indiana Pharmacist License in good standing

Other Skills

• Oversee the coordination of morale and engagement programs for the betterment of the pharmacy

• Must be able to travel on an as-needed basis

• Management supervisory skills a must

• Must have exceptional telephone skills, as numerous contacts are made by phone with long-term care personnel, physicians, etc.

• Ability to communicate, both in a written and verbally, with all levels of management, operations and corporate staff

• Must possess the ability to problem-solve when necessary

• Must possess organizational skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities in an effective manner
