Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Minimum 1 year of experience in
surgical nursing. - Valid RN license. - BLS certification.
Description: Provides nursing care and services in the operating
room. Assists with surgical procedures, scrubbing and circulating
duties, and directs non-professional personnel following
established policies. Oversees the supervision of non-licensed
staff. Handles multiple priorities while working effectively alone
or with others. Attends all required mandatory educational, safety,
and department-specific competency training programs. Follows
established protocols for safety related to job hazards and
regulatory compliance. Adheres to guidelines for infection control
in the operating room. Provides courteous service to patients,
staff, visitors, and others as part of the commitment to quality
service. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all
patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees. Promotes
effective working relationships within the departmental team to
facilitate meeting goals and objectives. Fosters an environment
that nurtures collaboration, teamwork, and mutual respect through
effective communication. Optimizes the use of time and resources to
identify barriers and balance priorities effectively. Maintains
confidentiality of all patient and hospital information. Assesses
and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care.
Uses nursing judgment and decision-making to assess, plan,
implement, and evaluate care. Provides emotional support and
comfort measures to patients and their families when appropriate.
Applies and monitors principles of aseptic technique throughout the
surgical process. Ensures safe transfer of patients to and from the
operating room. Performs sponge, needle, and sharp counts according
to policy. Ensures patient safety during the use of electrical
equipment. Preps the surgical site using aseptic techniques.
Accurately collects and labels specimens. Confines sources of
contamination as necessary. Reviews and revises surgical preference
cards and communicates changes as needed. Maintains up-to-date and
accurate documentation of nursing care. Prepares setup, materials,
medications, and equipment for surgical cases as needed. Assists
surgeons in all types of procedures as required. Sets up, operates,
and monitors various systems and equipment used in patient care.
Reviews and verifies patient information and chart forms. Maintains
inventory control of supplies and medications with appropriate
records. Follows physicians' orders and administers medications as
required. Ensures that the operating room and equipment are
functional. Creates and maintains a safe environment for surgical
procedures. Monitors overall patient care and reports any unusual
occurrences.
