The Certified Surgical Tech at Riverview Health is a key member of the surgical team and someone who has the ability to work well under stressful and emergency situations, acts quickly and accurately, works well with others, is a good communicator, and demonstrates empathy. Certified Surgical Tech Job Functions:

• Apply principles of asepsis to provide optimum patient care. This includes proper donning and doffing of sterile clothing, use of sterilized equipment, pre-surgical preparation of the operating room, and maintenance of the sterile field throughout the procedure.
• Prepare the room before and between surgical procedures. Gather appropriate equipment per the procedure and physician preference.
• Sterilize, count and carefully arrange equipment prior to the procedure. Ensure the count of tools, instruments and other supplies used during the procedure matches the initial count.
• Anticipate the needs of and assist the provider during the surgical procedure by retracting tissue and passing surgical instruments, always maintaining the sterile field.
• Attend and complete all annual competency education and demonstrate knowledge of either attending or reading all department meetings/minutes/newsletters.
• Precept new and tenured staff and surgical technology students as requested.

    • Minimum: LPN scrub or Certified Surgical Technologist graduating from an accredited surgical technology program
    • Preferred Education: Associate DegreeExperience Requirements:
      • Minimum Experience: Three (3) years of multispecialty Operating Room experience in the scrub role as LPN or CST and member of a national surgical technology organization
      • Preferred Experience: Five (5) years of multispecialty Operating Room experience including cardiovascular in the scrub role as LPN or CST
      • Other Requirements: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), CPRLicense and/or Certification Requirements:
        • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) in good standing
        • Basic Life Safety through the American Heart Association
